This Blog is Shutting Down & Merging Into Another

You may have noticed that it has been a while since I have posted in this blog. This is not because I haven’t been taking photographs or uploading them online. It is because  of a decision I took recently.

I started this blog in 2012 exclusively for my photography. I already had a main blog which was fairly diverse but wanted to have something specific. However after a couple of years I increasingly felt that I had over-fragmented my online writing. I am one person and I feel that my blog needs to be more reflective of who I am rather than just showcase one aspect of my personality.

Here is a slightly more detailed explanation on my decision to merge all my blogs.

As I still showcase my photography on my main blog, I would love it if you could visit here and follow it. For example you could visit the photograph of an Oriental Pied Hornbill eating a bit of fruit. All my earlier photographs are archived in the main blog.

Hope to see you around! Thank you for your support.

Pinhole Sunrise

I haven’t worked much with art filters in my cameras. I am never sure if it is the right thing to do- I love my photos unedited and right out of the camera. However I was playing with the options on my EM-5 and discovered that I quite liked the Pinhole creative effect on a hazy sunrise scene. Shot at Mae Chan, Chiang Rai in November 2013

Cat

I’ve lived pretty much all my life in proximity to cats- seen them all my life, watched them, observed them and loved them with all my heart. The same goes for my family.

So imagine our dismay when one of the cats that lays a claim on us came in late this morning- we had been fretting that she had missed her appointment, about what had happened to her. Then she came in- tired and a bit sad. She seemed relieved to know she had come back to a sanctuary (else she would never let me approach her with the black thing in my hands).

Anyway here she is- my tired little kitty mitty

Sunrise at 8am

As autumn progresses and the first waves of winter first hit you, there is a strong desire to just cozy up and sleep in bed. It doesn’t help that the sun comes up fairly late as well. But when you have a sunrise that’s bright and pink at 8 in the morning, it is worth jumping out of your bed (or whatever else you are doing) and open the window (despite the freezing wind) to take a few photographs.

Taken from the window of my hotel at Clermont Ferrand, these ravens called this tree their home. I wonder how they managed to sit in the cold with only their feathers to shield them. In the background, one can see the two spires of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de l’Assomption- a massive and impressive Gothic cathedral built from the local volvic stone.

More Fireworks

Happy Deepavali Everyone!

Fireworks from the Terrace

It’s the festival of lights and fireworks here in India!

My first attempt at long exposure photographs in the dark. It was a challenge to track the direction of the firecrackers and I almost gave up until a neighbour helpfully fired this!

Look how they shine for you

To See the World in a Drop of Rain

Looking at it from the outside

Looking at it from the outside

Suspended between existence and annihilation- just a drop of rain.
But who are we to call it “just” a drop of rain?
It has its own world- its own people with their lives
Looking out towards their sky, wondering at what may be outside
Their eternity lasting a moment, just as ours does
Looked at from the outside.

Its own world
